God bless her, Alicia Silverstone has yet again revealed a detail about her parenting style sure to earn her unmitigated judgement across the internet. On the subject of co-sleeping, Silverstone said on The Ellen Fisher Podcast that she sure does still sleep with her 11-year-old son, Bear, every night. “Bear and I still sleep together,” she said. According to her, she’s just “following nature.”
“If you were in any kind of wild setting where there are animals…if you put your baby over there,” she said, pointing, “your baby is going to get eaten. It’s not ideal for the baby to be over there.” It seems fair to point out that human preteens are rarely eaten by wild animals these days, but you do you, mama.

In the interview, Silverstone also said her son hasn’t needed medicine in his 11 years of life, for which she credits his vegan diet, pointed out the hypocrisy of sexualizing women’s breasts but shaming women for breastfeeding in public, and that attachment parenting has made her son “fiercely independent.”
She also noted that, over the years, she’s gotten a lot of flak for her commitment to veganism and her alternative parenting style, which I can’t say is inaccurate. There was that “bird-feeding” video, in which Silverstone prechewed food and then transferred it into her son’s mouth, a practice experts find troubling, per the L.A. Times. She told The New York Times in 2020 that she still took baths with her son—then nine years old—which she said was comforting for both of them.
Perhaps the fairest critique leveled at Silverstone is her anti-vaccination stance, which she wrote about in her 2014 parenting book, The Kind Mama. To be clear—vaccines are good and everyone should get them.
