How to Establish Your School as a Nutrition Hub

On Thursday, June 2, 2022, at 10:30 a.m., the California (CA) Local School Wellness Policy (LSWP) Collaborative will explore how to leverage the CA Universal Meals Program and school wellness community partnerships to establish schools as nutrition hubs and improve nutrition security for students and the community in the 2022–23 school year.

Participants will:

  • Describe “nutrition security” and “school nutrition hubs”
  • Understand the opportunity the CA Universal Meals Program provides the school wellness community to improve nutrition security among students and families
  • Identity innovative and impactful strategies to support schools as nutrition hubs
  • Brainstorm ways to bring nutrition hubs to your school communities using available resources

Speakers include:

  • Kathy Saile, MSW, California Director, No Kid Hungry
  • Amy Garfinkel Farm to School Network Lead, California Department of Food and Agriculture, Office of Farm to Fork
  • Crystal Young, Nutrition Education Consultant, California Department of Education (CDE)
  • Wendi Gosliner, DrPH, RD, Nutrition Policy Institute

The audience includes all state and local school nutrition professionals, superintendents, school business officials, and community partners involved in school wellness policies.
