Congratulations are in order for Laura Hicks of Schell City. Laura has been involved with a program called tops ( which stands for take-off pounds sensibly), Laura was recently crowned “TOPS” Missouri Queen for her weight loss success. Laura is reaching out to the community to share her journey with the Tops Weight Loss Program.
Losing weight can seem intimidating, especially when you consider that 1 in 3 American adults are obese and Missouri has an obesity rate of 34%. Obesity can cause an array of medical conditions including heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, and certain types of cancer. In addition, during our present situation with COVID-19, those that are obese are at a higher risk to contract the Coronavirus. But by committing to a healthier lifestyle, people can achieve weight loss and overall wellness.
For instance, Laura Hicks of Schell City has lost 123 pounds through the non-profit TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly), a non–commercial weight loss, education, and support organization. Additionally, Laura was recently crowned TOPS Missouri Queen for her weight loss success, meaning she lost more weight than any other TOPS female member in the entire state and reached her goal weight.
Last year, Missouri TOPS members lost a total of 9,544 pounds. Laura attributes her weight loss success to the support she received from her fellow TOPS members, along with portion control and regular exercise.
In the hopes of helping others, Laura is willing to share her story. 92.1 will be talking with Laura as an interview is scheduled in the near future.
TOPS has been fighting obesity since its founding in 1948. TOPS has tens of thousands of members – male and female, age seven and older – in its network of thousands of weight-loss support chapters throughout the United States and Canada.
