WILMINGTON — The annual Wilmington Garden Club Residential Landscape Award for 2022 is presented to Nils and Brittany McElroy, 738 Locust St., Wilmington. The award is presented for outstanding achievement and design.
The McElroys grow several kinds of tomatoes, kale, herbs, peppers, cabbage, along with ground cherries which children eat like candy.
Niles is a Unit Clerk at Clinton Memorial Hospital. Brittany, who works for P&G in Mason, was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. A vegan diet has countered those effects.
The Commercial Landscaping Award was again presented to St. Columbkille Catholic Church, 73 N. Mulberry, Wilmington for their “Holy Spirit” garden.
Not technically a business, St. Columbkille is in the business of saving souls.
A community landscaping award from the Wilmington Garden Club has been given to the St. Columbkille Catholic Church for its Holy Spirit Garden located on the south side of the church building along Mulberry Street downtown. The church won the beautification award in the organization or business category. Colleen Germann, a secretary at the church, is pictured.
Nils McElroy and his wife Brittany are responsible for this front-lawn beautification — which also includes growing fresh vegetables to eat. They live on the 700 block of West Locust Street in Wilmington, and are the recipients of the 2022 Residential Beautification Award from the Wilmington Garden Club.
